Memorial Museum (former ESMA)

Former torture centre turned into a memorial museum to promote and defend human rights.

This space was created in the year 2004 to preserve the memory of those who died during Argentina's last civil-military dictatorship (1976-1983) and to promote and defend human rights.

It is located on the 17-hectare site that formely belonged to the ESMA, the Argentine army's mechanics' school, which was used as a clandestine torture centre during the dictatorship.

Several institutions are now located on the site, including the national memorial archive, the Malvinas War Museum, a cultural centre. The memorial museum features testimonies of survivors of and various historical archives.
